The Ghost Files 4 Part 2 - Apryl Baker

11 / 50 Reading challenge

3.5 / 5 ✨

Read date: February 27

๐Ÿ™‚๐Ÿ“– *SPOILER ALERT*

More good than part 1 of book 4. I'm losing interest. But I WILL NEVER GIVE UP on Mattie. I already have the copy of the last installment which is the 5th book.

I shipped Mattie and Dan. Obviously, they belong to each other! Too many boys involved! What a b***h! lol!

Also, it's realllllly annoying why you need to give back a story?! It took up so much of the story. And Mattie always ends up in a hospital?! Kinda redundant too. I also don't think that there should be part 1 or part 2 since the story is short.

I gave 3.5 stars coz of officer Dan and SILAS! I'm really curious about that demon! I want to know more about his history!

I'm really excited to know what would be Mattie's decision, what will happen, and what choices she will make. So???

Accio book 5! *grin*

SYPNOSIS FROM GOODREADS :

Hush little children, all snug in your beds,
Safe in your dreams tucked away in your heads.
But he is watching and wants to be fed.
Don’t try to run…say a prayer instead,
Because, little children, you’ll soon be dead.

Children all over the city of Charlotte, North Carolina are vanishing and turning up dead exactly one week after their disappearance. The city is in a panic, parents terrified to let their children out of their sight, but it’s simply not enough. You can’t hide from the Devourer of Souls.

Mattie has endured a lot over the last year, but now she’s faced with something even her nine lives can't survive. As old secrets are brought to light, she must confront her destiny—and a curse that may cost her everything.

Throw in a fallen angel serial killer who specializes in little kids, and Mattie may have to seek help from the one person she swore she never would.

Silas.

The real question is will she come out the other side the same person she was, or will Silas finally get what he wants—her soul…?

๐Ÿ™‚๐Ÿ“– *SPOILER ALERT*

The story was good. The author was really awesome. She's actually one of my favorite authors. I love the plot! BUT one thing is really consistent in this series. Matthie is really annoying. Starting from the beginning of book 1 until now. Omg. The other characters were really good. It was ruined by the main character. I don't know if I will laugh or cry. Seriously. I hope, I REALLY REALLY HOPE that the last installment of the series will be worth it. :)

Of course, I recommend this book to everyone who loves ghost stories. *wink*

SYPNOSIS FROM GOODREADS :

Sleep, little children,
all safe in your beds.
But when the boogeyman knocks,
if you are up watching…
he’ll make sure that you wish you were dead!

Once every one hundred and fifty years he emerges from the darkest depths to feed. With each soul he takes, he grows stronger. There is but one gift he needs in order to gain the power he seeks. One gift that will allow him to walk amongst all the precious little children.

And it’s the one gift Mattie Hathaway possesses…the ability to bring images to life with just a drop of her blood. The demon Silas has warned her to never reveal this ability, not even to her father who shares her power to communicate with the dead. She’s heeded his warning, but hiding it may no longer be an option.

Children are disappearing all over the Charlotte area. When their bodies are recovered, they are always the same—broken, beaten, and bruised. Fear is spiraling out of control in the Queen City as parents glance nervously around each corner, seeing the boogeyman in every shadow.

When one little girl goes missing in Mattie’s neighborhood, it’s up to her and Officer Dan Richards to find the truth. In doing so, she uncovers a far greater evil than she’s ever come up against. The one thing she was bred to defeat.

Deleriel. A fallen angel…one of the first demons. He is powerful, ambitious, and now that Mattie is on his radar, she’s all he needs to complete his arsenal.

Amid of whirlwind of secrets coming to light, Mattie is faced with uncovering the truth about her own heritage. She must come to grips with it before she can begin to prepare for the battle of a lifetime…a battle she never asked for but is caught in the middle of.

Can she face her own truths before it’s too late?

+Good. But a very short story. Enjoyed reading from a different perspective. I was hoping for more. I would love to hear from ELI's POV. Somewhere in between. Still suggest reading this, add on for the whole series.

SYPNOSIS FROM GOODREADS :

Tick tock…

Mary Cross has been forced to accept the world of the supernatural because of an experience that left her with the ability to hear—but not sees—the supernatural. She survived three weeks of being kidnapped and tortured, and it has left her emotionally and physically scarred.

Across the street from her house, strange things are happening…

Mysterious noises haunt the residents, faucets turn on by themselves, and footsteps can be heard running up and down the stairs. It all centers around Noah, a two-year-old child. Babysitters have run screaming from the house.

Caleb Malone has been dumped into a teeming hornet’s nest…

He’s always been the good son, done everything asked of him, and even gave up graduate school to join the family business of hunting supernatural villains. He’s convinced himself he’s happy, that his duty to his gift should come before anything else.

Until he meets Mary Cross.

She gives him hope that things can be different, that he can be different.

Together, the two of them must solve the mystery of the two shadows stalking the child and save him from whatever has attached itself to him. Time is running out and to save Noah, forcing Mary to face her own demons.

But in doing so…has she put a target on her back?

+Can't wait to dive deeper with the characters. I still laugh out loud coz of the wittiness of Uncle Rick. Never a dull moment with them. LOVE IT!

SYPNOSIS FROM GOODREADS :

The heroic son of Poseidon makes an action-packed comeback in the second must-read installment of Rick Riordan's amazing young readers series. Starring Percy Jackson, a "half-blood" whose mother is human and whose father is the God of the Sea, Riordan's series combines cliffhanger adventure and Greek mythology lessons that result in true page-turners that get better with each installment.

In this episode, The Sea of Monsters, Percy sets out to retrieve the Golden Fleece before his summer camp is destroyed, surpassing the first book's drama and setting the stage for more thrills to come.

+Uhmmm.. Back in 2015, I rated this book as 5 STARS! WTH?! Seriously? Maybe my mind is out of place at that time. LOL! ๐Ÿ˜‚

+NOW, rereading this: Boring. Redundant. Hilda keeps on passing in and out. Too much romance. As if she doesn't really know who she really likes. Annoying. Duh, let's just focus on ghosts. PLEASE. Ewww.. *rollingeyes* ๐Ÿ˜’๐Ÿ˜‚ 2 stars for Caleb or The Malones. ๐Ÿ–ค

SYPNOSIS FROM GOODREADS :

At seventeen, Mattie Hathaway has survived her mother attempting to kill her, multiple foster homes, and a serial killer. Oh, and she sees ghosts on a regular basis too. You’d think Fate would give her a break right? Umm…nope, not Mattie.

Dan Richards is the only person in the entire world Mattie trusts, but then the boy goes and breaks her heart. Mattie does what she does best, she runs and lands herself slap in the middle of a haunted house full of ghosts turned vengeful that want Mattie to join their ranks.

The only bright spot on all this? Eli Malone – the gorgeous boy with the beautiful aqua eyes that makes her feel things she’s never even imagined before. She’s not sure what to do with him, especially when Dan shows up glowering at him.

She’ll figure Eli out if she can survive the house. The ghosts are bound and determined to kill her so she’ll be one of them. Now if she can just figure out how to survive them and the demon stalking her, she might be able to decide what to do about her feelings for Dan and Eli.

That is if she can survive the night in the house.

For sixteen-year-old Mattie Hathaway, this is her normal everyday routine. She’s been able to see ghosts since her mother tried to murder her when she was five years old. No way does she want anyone to know she can talk to spooks. Being a foster kid is hard enough without being labeled a freak too.

Normally, she just ignores the ghosts and they go away. That is until she sees the ghost of her foster sister… Sally.

Everyone thinks Sally’s just another runaway, but Mattie knows the truth—she’s dead. Murdered. Mattie feels like she has to help Sally, but she can’t do it alone. Against her better judgment, she teams up with a young policeman, Officer Dan, and together they set out to discover the real truth behind Sally’s disappearance.

Only to find out she’s dealing with a much bigger problem, a serial killer, and she may be the next victim…

Will Mattie be able to find out the truth before the killer finds her?

+First book from this awesome author! Definitely not the last! A MUST-READ! Highly recommended!!! ๐ŸŒ ๐Ÿ™ƒ

Genre: Realistic fiction, YA, African American Interest

SYPNOSIS FROM GOODREADS :

A timely and powerful story about a teen girl from a poor neighborhood striving for success, from acclaimed author Renรฉe Watson.

Jade believes she must get out of her neighborhood if she’s ever going to succeed. Her mother says she has to take every opportunity. She has. She accepted a scholarship to a mostly-white private school and even Saturday morning test prep opportunities. But some opportunities feel more demeaning than helpful. Like an invitation to join Women to Women, a mentorship program for “at-risk” girls. Except really, it’s for black girls. From “bad” neighborhoods.

But Jade doesn’t need support. And just because her mentor is black doesn’t mean she understands Jade. And maybe there are some things Jade could show these successful women about the real world and finding ways to make a real difference.

Friendships, race, privilege, identity—this compelling and thoughtful story explores the issues young women face.
